I gave my GMAT a couple of weeks ago, and I wanted to come back to this post. I got a V40, but never encountered any bold face question there. So definitely was a bit surprised. So it's not a given.

On my last real attempt, my second to last V question was a bold face question, and a very difficult one at that. I thought I had it made...ended up with a 36V. Go figure.

I got one boldfaced question somewhere around the 30th question. It was a tough one and took me around 3 minutes to crack. I'm sure I got it right though.

Why all the fear around the boldface questions?

From what I've seen from MGMAT CAT, OG12, and GMATPrep1, they aren't too bad.

Are the ones on the GMAT much more difficult?

My memory of test day is a little fuzzy, but I don't think the question was super difficult.

I scored V40 and had no boldface question, which anyway I usually find easy.

I scored Q47 and got a probability problem, yet it was an easy one.

So there are no hard rules. Just answer each question they throw at you.

Anyway if during the test you have enough time to think about "when is the boldface coming", then you are not concentrated enough.

Bold face question has nothing to do with how you are performing.I can tell you by my personal experience.I saw 3,7 and 9 question as bold face. Not an easy one but with very convoluted logic and answer choices.I didn't performed at all well in my gmat and ended up scoring v21.

I had a quick question to all the 700 + GMAT scorers.

Do you all had the bold face CR questions once in your verbal? I want to get a feeler as to judge whether the bold face questions would definitely come once if your score is above 700.

Thank you

Bold face questions are big myth.

I recently scored V 40 , and there was no bold face questions.
Any how I found bold face easier to decipher than assumptions ( specially weaken/assumption combination).

So ,scoring good in verbal and having a bold face CR does not have any correlation.

And again I had quiet many P&C and probability questions , but I got only Q 47,

I got a boldface questions somewhere around the middle of my exam, and ended with a V38...

I think my score could have been a little higher, but ran into some timing issues towards the end...hope that helps!

P.S. Not sure why everyone hates the boldface questions...are they a little bit more difficult sure, but I don't know if they warrant all the concern...
