I was admitted with a Dean's Fellowship (full scholarship), but I'm having trouble deciding if IU is right for me. As far as I can tell, they aren't super strong in either of my career paths (consulting/Ibanking). If you were admitted to a higher ranked school (Ross, Fuqua, Stern) with no $, would you go with the school with more "prestige" and stronger connections with your target firms, or the better value? Will the fact that I was awarded with the fellowship improve my odds at landing with a top consulting/ibanking firm?

Sounds like a great situation to be in! Personally, I would not pay 100K just for a little more prestige. Kelley seems to have really thought through the process for how students can make successful career transitions into pretty much any business related field.

To be honest, I think it depends on one's career aspirations. As much as I love Kelley, if I knew I wanted to work for M/B/B in consulting or work for one of the top i-banks, I would pick Ross/Fuqua/Stern over a full-ride at Kelley in a heart beat. Now, if one wanted to go into marketing, IMHO a person would be an idiot to turn down that full ride.

True, you might not be able to break in easily to the "top three" consulting firms from Kelley. But my two cents is there are definitely students at Kelley who are making a go of it in both consulting and investment banking. And if you do go down one of those paths, when you get your job you'll still be working alongside MBAs from the MBA programs that were mentioned who also didn't break into those firms. Here is a listing of companies that recently hired Kelley MBAs https://kelley.iu.edu/GCS/Recruiting/Top ... 20451.html

Certainly. On my visit to Kelley I chatted with several who were going into consulting. It is all about odds and averages. I went to law school at Indiana and if you wanted to work for the large law firms paying top dollar, then you pretty much had to be in the top 10% of the graduating class. If you went to Northwestern you probably had to be in the top 40-50%. If you went to Harvard you pretty much just needed a diploma. IMHO, it is similar for those looking to get into ibanking/consulting.

I'm certainly not discounting those who want to go into i-banking or consulting from IU. I just think that if one had a chance to go to the schools with deep connections at tons of those top firms, one should usually play the odds. That is especially true in consulting/ibanking as with generally higher salaries than other career paths the difference in education costs will be less of a factor. For career switchers I think it is likely even more important to get those added connections, whereas if you were previously an i-banker, have a 750 GMAT perhaps and want to stay in i-banking, it is probably less of a concern.

If one wants to work in industry, whether that is corp fin or marketing, the playing field opens up considerably.

Kelley Experience Weekend Schedule
Posted on March 16, 2011

The schedule for Kelley Experience Weekend is still being finalized. In order to take full advantage of the weekend, it is likely best to plan to be on campus from Friday noon until Sunday evening. There will be a number of optional events on Friday afternoon that will most likely include a Business Analytics session, tours of the building, various Academy activities, keynote speakers and several other opportunities. The Center for the Business of Life Sciences will also have a keynote speaker, panel presentation, and networking lunch from 10:30am-2pm.

The weekend officially begins with a Welcome Reception at 6pm on Friday. Saturday is full of activities and Sunday is left primarily for you to explore Bloomington and visit potential housing options. (Several local communities and apartment complexes will have open houses on Sunday afternoon, specifically for MBA students.) We hope this helps as you make your travel arrangements. A tentative schedule should be available on the admitted student website next week. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Saw this on the admitted students website.

Hi guys!

I'm going to Bloomington for the Experience Weekend as well.
I'm arriving on the 5th, as I am flying from Brazil and this may be my only chance to sort out housing options before classes begin.

If anyone is going to be around earlier too, I'd love to meet up!

Got an admit from Kelley...

I'm currently into IT services and intend to move to corp. finance post MBA, so facing a dilemma in choosing between Kelley and Georgetown.

Will wait for the scholarship packages to arrive before taking a call...

Is there any possibility to know the scholarship info before the package arrives?
Has any one had luck with this??
I need to decide between Kelley and a other school, where I got some good scholarship...

What are the major banks that hire from Kelley. Businessweek mentions Citigroup and Bank of America amongst the top recruiters. Would like to know whether the students got in there from the IBank Academy or the Corp Fin Academy. Also do they hire international students as well ?

I would check out this list of companies that have hired in 2009-2010.

An X indicates that at least 1 person went to that entity, for either full-time employment or as a summer intern, as indicated.
