Hello. I have applied to the following schools for a PhD in Management. I'm planning to take up the OB/HRM stream. The schools are:
University of Rhode Island,
University of Utah,
University of Washington,
Washington State University,
University of Florida,
University of Connecticut.
Can someone please tell me what sort of ranking these schools have. I know about UWash but could not get any information about the others. Does anyone know what tier-schools they are considered to be?Thanks.
Sign up for US News' online guide to grad schools, you'll get all the info and data that you need there. They rank the top 80. You can also check into Business Week, which ranks the top 70 (but only the top 30 in order, the rest are grouped into tiers.
Washington is ranked in the second tier (31-50) by BW, UConn and Florida made the third tier (51-70). I think that Utah made the USN top 80, somewhere between 60 and 80. The others are not ranked by any guide of which I know, but are nonetheless legitimate schools, and if you find a prof who's well-known in your chosen area at one of those schools, go for it.
Also remember that PhD programs are not ranked, that the rankings are for MBa programs, but this should serve as a guide to you nonetheless. Also consider things like the publishing that profs do in a particular school in the particular field of management in which you are interested. I assume you're looking to get into education as a tenured prof; working under a good professor who publishes in the best journals as a mentor will probably be as valuable to your job search as going to a "name" school.
