It depends on what schools you are looking at. If you are applying to H/S/W and/or other top schools, then yeah, your work background will be one of the biggest determining factors in whether you are admitted.

While 690 is good enough to be considered by the top schools, if you can improve your verbal score substantially, you could theoretically be a top scorer (760+). It won't be easy to achieve as it looks like you have a way to go on verbal, but assuming you have time, I'd say go for it. I do concur with the other responses about the rest of your app mattering, but the GMAT can be an easy place to improve your app.

Re: Should I retake GMAT? Score - 690 Q48 V35 [#permalink]
My scenario is also very similar.. 690 with Q50 and V34.. mgmt consulting + good academics background.. am only aiming for top 7 US universities. While I was constantly scoring more than 720 in mocks, screwed it somehow in VA :( .. Don't know if I should reattempt it or concentrate on apps. Is there any minimum score (for ticking purposes) that the universities use? What is that score? Some say, it is 680.. is it true? Please guide.

I guess 690 is the flavour of the season. I have same score. Good Luck
