Been a lurker for a while, first post! Apologies in advance for the long post, I'm working on my concision skills!
First off, thanks to all the forum members and whoever started this community. It was immensely helpful in my GMAT preparation!
My profile is the typical Indian male (a blessing and a curse
). Undergrad from Mumbai (Etx) -> Masters in Computer Science (NC State) -> Lead Engineer at a Computer Hardware company (Rhymes with hell
). 8 years at the same company - primarily in engineering. Current role is the development manager (aka lead engineer) that is responsible for launch and delivery of two software products. I've had opportunities to learn and perform functions such as supplier management, marketing, pre-sales, engineering, customer support to cleaning labs and moving systems (Aka everything that is required to deliver a product to market successfully!).
The MBA vision and story should be simple right? March on to IT consulting/marketing, MBA makes logical sense and that should be why I should go to B-school.
I wish...
I have a huge interest in and passion for electronic music (DJ in my spare time, avid collector of music, collected over 500 vinyl records). I really want to make my passion my career! I've got the technology thing down pat (Thank you Mr Creator for the ethnicity assignment
but have absolutely no clue in the business side of things. I possess limited (to non-existent) skills that are required to create a viable business from scratch. My reasons for getting an MBA are to gain the right set of skills that will enable me to develop and execute some ideas in the intersection of electronic music and technology. At the same time getting an MBA will definitely help me in my career path, however it is not my primary intention.
With this goal in mind, based on what I''m reading on the forums, my profile seems to fit a "career switcher" rather than a "career enhancer" and thus fit more to FT programs than PT programs. I'm intent on pursuing only the part time option as I will mostly self fund (company will kick in a very small amount). I cannot afford to lose income by enrolling in an FT program
So, Do I even have a shot at PT?
Schools in my head:
Wharton, Chicago, Kellogg, Haas, McCombs.
GMAT : 720 (94%) (q:48:83%, v:41:94%)
