Hi Piki,
Thanks for your message. I reviewed your profile similar to other candidates' profiles when I worked as part of a top tier program's admissions committee.
I would like to first congratulate you on the incredible risk you incurred to establish your entrepreneurial endeavor during your personal time, which is highly commendable. From my analysis, you always had the entrepreneurial spirit within you (i.e. founded the aeronautical society, established the departmental newsletter, etc.). Your energy to achieve is quite evident even in your former extracurricular activities (athletics, music, art, etc).
From a career standpoint, you have gained strong exposure as an young entrepreneur, not to mention exposure to several prominent corporations as an intern in the area of robotics. I like that (in short time) you also gained solid teamwork, analytical and leadership skills in cross-functional areas and diverse company cultures. Additionally, your academic background is in the competitive range for these schools and displays your ability to handle the rigorous curriculum. Based on my experience, the only area I would suggest that you focus is how each program's offerings will align with your future goals. This will also help AdComms understand why you are looking to pursue an MBA after you may have started to gain success in your entrepreneurial endeavor.
Based on my experience over the past 7+ years, I think you have a strong background for the top 10 US programs. If you are also looking at other programs outside of the US, then I would also encourage you to apply to some top European programs that attract you.
As you approach your applications, there are a few questions you will want to reflect upon, as top business schools will have similar questions about your candidacy:
1. How will you apply the MBA, given that you may be already achieving success in your entrepreneurial endeavor currently?
2. Do you really need an MBA versus the other traditional MBA candidate (without any entrepreneurship experience or practical business knowledge) who is looking to get in to the same program?
3. Why do you want to obtain an MBA – to pursue a career in tech or in the hospitality/consumer goods/other industry?
Similar to you, one of our MAC Fellows who is currently at a top 5 MBA program, began a biscuit confectionery business during his free time in the evenings before applying to b-school. Therefore, if you ask us....we think you are on the right track
I hope this helps you. If you would like to further speak directly with our consultants who are former admissions committee members or our recent admits at any point, please visit
