"Furniture Depot employed our internet advertising company to help. Since then its sales increased by 10% over last year's totals. Furniture Depot's success demonstrates how using our internet services can increase your profitability."
"Describe how well reasoned you find this argument. In the discussion be sure to analyze the line of reasoning and the use of evidence in the argument. For example, you may need to consider what questionable assumptions underlie the thinking and what alternative explanations or counterexamples might weaken the argument's conclusion. You may also address possible changes in the argument that would make it more logically sound, and what, if anything, would help you better evaluate its conclusion. "
The statement presents a claim that the reason for the rise in Furniture Depot increased sales is because of the Internet services employed by it .Though the statement claim may have a certain base but it presents a poorly reasoned argument which is based on several questionable assumptions and premises and hence the claim cannot be accepted as true in its current form.
The Primary issue with the statement is that it is based on unsubstantiated premised. The statement fails to look for other reasons which may have contributed towards the increased sales of Furniture Depot. For Instance , Apart from the internet services , did Furniture Depot employed other strategies like better media advertising or collaboration with other depots to increase their sales. The increased sales may well be attributed to bad performance from competing depots. The claim presented here fails to provide any relevant evidences in this regard. The statement's premise , which is the basis of its conclusion , stands unacceptable due to lack of legitimate evidences.
Additionally , the statement does not provide recommendations from Furniture Depot or any other clients to justify that internet services increased their profitability. The sole client example it provides is of Furniture depot .On the basis of a single case it is hard to accept the claim and hence the statement weakens its argument by failing to provide explications of the link between sales and its services that the claim assumes exists.
However , the statement's claim may be true but it needs to strengthen its position. The claim must provide absolute facts about furniture depot's sales before and after using their services and any other major change which occurred within the client or in the general business market as such. The claim must also provide relevant examples from different fields to substantiate the claim that using their services can lead to an increase in the profitability in other business domains as well.
In sum , the author presents a poorly reasoned argument which raises several questions on the claim. If the author truly hopes that the reader must accept the claim he must restructure the argument, remove flaws in the reasoning , provide exemplary support and explication for the claim . However , the presented statement in its current form cannot be accepted to be true by us.
