Hello Scott,
Thanks for your advise on your book! I will try to sketch my profile in terms your questions.
My background:
I am 22 years old, from Central Asia. I graduated from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent.
What did you study in college?
My undergraduate program was on International Economic Relations, but in my country much more variety of subjects are taught within any program. In fact what I studied at the university ranges from basics of economics, marketing, management and accounting to ethics, psychology, logic and history.
What do you want to do post-MBA?
I want to work in IT industry (I will explain the reason below)
Why do you want an MBA, rather than 3-4 years from now?
You may suggest me to work, gain experience, and then apply to MBA. OK, where I will work? Here, in my country, because I cannot work abroad. Profile of my university is not strong enough to allow me work abroad in respected companies. Though university from which I graduated is the best in my country this is not the case in other countries. There are several reasons: poor education during the transition period, different requirements, etc. So I will stay here, in my country. But there are two problems. First, is it really worth spending my life in one of these companies here. Maybe. Maybe it is not. The second problem I need to sustain my family for the years I am working here: it will three years at least! But wages here are not so high, I will definitely face financial problems.
If I apply to MBA now investing two years of my life and then make my experience abroad with decent salary I am sure I can avoid these problems. I think six years from now I will in a better shape if I apply to MBA now than if I delay.
What have you done outside of school work, in terms of community involvement?
Let me write an answer in combination with the next question.
Any other hobbies? What are you passionate about?
I am fond of innovation, and that brought to several engagements in my life. During my school years I was interested in architecture and construction. I loved to make innovative house plans and calculate all the costs for the plan from scratch. During first years at the university I was interest in Graphical Design software. Later I began to learn Programming. I learnt Java programming language (though not professionally) until my graduation and now I am able to write simple programs myself.
So I am passionate about innovative approach and therefore choose the most innovative in my opinion industry – IT.
