Hi Jon,
My GMAT score is 700 ( Q49, V37, IR 7)
I have an engineering degree from a college ranked continuously in top 5 in New Delhi. However, my percentage score is 66%. In my defense, the highest department score itself is in moderate 70's.
Work experience : 3 years
1 year 3 months with Tata Consultancy Services: Was awarded at TCS for being one of the brightest new joiners that batch, award presented out of 800 colleagues.
Worked as a Technical Anlayst, for a German Client, where I would translate business requirements into technical requirements.
2 years with a European Telecom Firm ( Market share estimated at 5%) : Worked as a Business Analyst for 2 years. Worked on Requirement Gathering, Stakeholder management, typical IT consulting profile.
I have also worked as a freelancer with a small real estate firm ( ~ 500 people) on how to set up IT systems for automation and cost reduction.
Very recently, I have joined a financial firm in New Delhi as a Business Analyst & Project Leader . The firm is one of the best ranked health insurance and mutual funds provider in India and has an international repute. Also, I lead a team here and report directly to the EVP - Technology.
Publications: I have 5 publications, 2 at international conferences, 3 at National Conferences. Most of these publications revolve around societal development using Information Technology.
ECA & Leadership Roles: I was the part of core team, that handled the cultural events in my university. Handled a budget of 50,000 USD. I am also associated with NGO's working at grassroot level in Delhi. Have worked with Greenpeace too. Have been fairly active here, have mentioned only the first few points here.
One of the biggest accomplishments here is, I have worked with a National Bank for the Prime Minister's Wealth for all scheme. This includes opening up bank accounts for the poor, advise them on the benefits of bank accounts, help them on how to operate these bank accounts, and the benefits of having a bank account. I was responsible for opening up over a 100 bank accounts for the rural poor in India (rural poor are defined as people with less than 100 rs a day earning) and a cumulative deposit of Rs 500,000. This has been appreciated by the state head of the National Bank.
2 years back, I had an IE Business School admit for Master in Finance last year, which I had to forego due to family commitments.
I have sent my scores to 5 universities, namely, Booth, Kellogg, Ross, UCLA Anderson, Rotman at Toronto.
Apart from these 5 schools, I intend to apply to NYU Stern, Columbia, Fuqua, Johnson and Tepper.
My dream colleges are Booth, Kellogg or Ross.
Do you think I can convert any of these universities with such credentials and the GMAT score? Or do you think I should write the GMAT once again? Do you think you could help me in converting any of these three colleges in the early round?
I am aware that the early round for your consulting closes on the September 10th, and therefore, I would try to wrap up my applications as quickly as possible!
Thanks.
Hello hello my good sir,
so let' shave a look at your profile!
The Good stuff:
Good GMAT, Very good volunteer stuff (Greenpeace, NGO, National Bank)
The Challenges:
Indian/Male/IT (I know... I know), poor grades, non-IIT
I'll be honest with you dude, you are up against some STIFF competition. The Applicant Pool for Indian/Male/Tech folks is HUGE, and lots of them come from IITs with 80%+ and 730+ on the GMAT. So my first piece of advice to you is: Drop the tougher schools: Booth, Kellogg, Columbia. I KNOW that two of them are in your dream, but at the same time, it's a looooot of work, and you are gonna be up against some tough nuts. Not that the other schools will be EASY either! LOTS and LOTS of work to do there too.
What I do like in your profile though is that I see potential for some STORY. And that is really really important! Cause there are so many folks that don't have anything interesting outside of work. and you DO. So use that!
As for our consulting services, actually if you'd like to work with us, it's totally cool if you don't have your first drafts yet, cause then we can also advise you on selecting your stories and structuring them.
Anyhow, drop us a line, and we can set you up.
Best,
JF
