In a series of consecutive odd numbers, 27 is the eighth smallest number and 25 is the tenth largest number. What is the range of the series?
(A) 32
(B) 30
(C) 28
(D) 16
(E) 14

i used the straightforward method, and put the numbers on a line...
25 (10th) 27 (9th) 29 (8th), 31 (7th), 33 (6th), 35 (5th), 37 (4th), 39 (3rd), 41 (2nd), 43 (1st).
so greatest number is 43.
now let's go on the other side.
27 is 8th, 25 is 7th, 23 is 6th, 21 is 5th, 19 is 4th, 17 is 3rd, 15 is 2nd, 13 is 1st.
smallest number is 13.

range is 43-13 = 30.

27-7*2=13
