In a given month, a lawyer charged his clients at an average rate of $400 per hour. In that particular month, seven of his clients were charged at average $410 per hour and the least of the hourly charge that the lawyer can accept is $375 per hour. How many clients did he have in that month?

(1) The hourly rates of each client are divisible by 5
(2) The lawyer had less than 20 clients that month

I got an inspiration from a question in MGMAT's flashcard as follows;
Show Spoiler
5 people in a company earn an average
salary of $50,000. If 2 of the employees
earn an average of $65,000, what is the
average salary of the remaining 3
employees?

Firstly tasks says about average rate per hour and then about average rate per month. Is it correct?

I can't get how it can be B answer.

1 case: we have 11 clients. 7 of them have average rate 410 so common sum is 2870
Average rate for all clients 400 so common sum is 4400. The another 4 clients have average rate 382.50

2 case: we have 9 clients. 7 of them have average rate 410 so common sum is 2870
Average rate for all clients 400 so common sum is 3600. The another 2 clients have average rate 365

Am I miss something?

You are not missing anything. You are right. The former answer to the question is "E"; however, I made changes to the question and it is clearer now. Thank you for pointing this out!!

Hello runkun.

Now it has discrepuncy. In task you say that "the least charge is $372" and first statement says that "rates of each client are divisible by 5"
I think such discrepancy is not good for DS tasks.

Hello runkun.

Now task doesn't have discrepancies but there are two solutions possible:
1) 19 people with avg $400 --> sum 7600
7 people with avg 410 --> sum 2870
7600-2870 = 4730
10 people $395 + 2 people $390 = $4730

2) 18 people with avg $400 --> sum 7200
7 people with avg 410 --> sum 2870
7200-2870 = 4330
10 people $395 + 1 person $380 = $4330

Two cases are possible, so answer is E

This task will be correct with answer C if you change second statement on
"The lawyer had less than 11 clients that month"
