On my mind designing your resume can be eye catchy as well.
Thanks Mike for this excellent TED Talk!

With the popularity of the industry on the rise, applying for a job is getting more and more competitive. Therefore, your resume is becoming more important than ever. It's the first look that a prospective employer will have of you, so you need to make the best first impression possible. Right?

Would you like to share something about resume design skills? How to catch recruiters' eyes in this race starts from a creative resume?

Dear James,

I am not a designer, so I can say little about how to make a resume "eye-catching."

I will say, though, often an application involves not only a resume but also a cover letter, and I think this merits more attention. Resumes are resumes: many look the same and have more or less the same kinds of information. A cover letter, though, is a chance to speak your individual message. Toward that end, I want to share with you the TED Talk by Simon Sinek. If you truly have vision, you will stand out from a crowd of 10,000 others will similar resumes. You can't get to vision following a formula. You have to dig deep. You have to know who you are and what you really want to accomplish in this world.

That's my two cents.

Mike McGarry :-)

Thanks for sharing Simon Sinek's talk. It was an interesting video.

My 2 cents from the admissions committee side is that for MBA admissions- I don't think you have too much to gain from a resume that "looks" different. You will win in the resume game if you have a story that fits... meaning that you can see the progression in your work and how it all leads into the post MBA goal. Lots of bells and whistles will distract from the main goal- to show that you will make the school proud, do well in recruiting and be a great asset to your fellow students. Too many lines and odd formatting may not scan well on the school side and in my opinion is not going to drive you to a positive decision any more than just demonstrating impact and results in your work.
