What exactly is the meaning of E? What does "It seems like just yesterday" convey?

Possibly "Today seems like yesterday" would make some sense.

The presence of the word "just" is a clue that the point of this sentence is not to compare something to "yesterday".

Lets' contrast E with the OA.

Sentence Created Via Using The OA: It seems as if just yesterday we were in the Bahamas swimming with the sharks.

Sentence Created Via Using E: It seems like just yesterday when we were in the Bahamas swimming with the sharks.

While initially the version created by using E sounds ok, there are two noticeable differences between E and the OA, the use of "like" rather than "as if" and the addition of "when".

The version created by using the OA conveys that even though we were not swimming with the sharks just yesterday, its seems as if we were.

While "it seems as if" is a colloquial expression, it does convey the correct meaning.

On the other hand, "it seem's like" is not correct. "like" is used for comparing two things. "This dog is like a cat." "My hair looks like a mop"

"as if" is used to show a relationship between two subject verb combinations.

"He acts as if he knows where the treasure is hidden." - He acts (subject verb) AS IF he knows (subject verb)

"Antonia talks as if she were a comedienne." Antonia talks (subject verb) AS IF she were (subject verb)

The point of the sentence in the question is not that "It" seems LIKE "just yesterday".

The point is that "It seems as if just yesterday we were in the Bahamas." It seems (subject verb) AS IF we were (subject verb).

Once you realize that that is intended meaning, you see that the addition of "when" does not make sense either.

Conveying the intended meaning does not require "yesterday, when we were in the Bahamas" but rather "yesterday we were in the Bahamas".

It seems as if just yesterday we were in the Bahamas swimming with the sharks.

Can someone please explain why is A wrong? Between A and B, I couldn't figure out the correct one. Why is the usage of "that" wrong in option A?

I went through your explanation. It is amazing. I even went through sayantanc2k 's explanation and I have a doubt in that.

He says that "as if" is not followed by a noun or a noun phrase. Thus A and D are out.

But I don't see any nouns in option A and D, at least in the underlined part. Are "that" and "when" nouns?

Please let me know if I'm missing anything.

The word "yesterday" can serve as a noun or as an adverb. (A) and (D) are so illogical that it's hard to tell whether "yesterday" is a noun or an adverb.

Since "just yesterday" indicates a time, "just yesterday" seems to be adverbial. However, "that we were" would modify a noun, not an adverb.

I personally would go with the idea that "just yesterday" has to be adverbial, but either way, "as if" doesn't work. "As if" does not properly connect a clause with either a noun or an adverb.
