Hi,
I'll be graduating in July with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a leading engineering college from my country. I have also secured a job with a company that happens to be one of the world's largest - or probably, the largest - pump manufacturers, as a trainee technical support engineer (will become an engineer later hopefully!).
I have also read about the importance of brands as well when applying to a B-school. Keeping aside other things such as my CV, schools, university GPA, GMAT scores, etc., and purely with regards to the company I will be working for - I would like to know how a leading (top 20) B-school would view a company, such as the one I described, on my application? I have heard from a couple of people that core industry experience is considered very valuable by B-schools, but I am also looking for more opinions on this topic. Naturally I plan to apply only after getting some quality work experience under my belt.
With regards to the company - it is well-established in its field, as I mentioned, and has offices all around the world. As such, in its industry it is a leader. However, since pump-manufacturing is not exactly something you read about everyday in the papers, it isn't exactly a Mercedes/Microsoft/IBM/Glencore type-of-name. How much does that matter?
