Hi Stacey,
I'm hoping to get a profile evaluation, comments on my school selections and some questions clarified. I'd like to first thank you for taking time to go through my profile. Here goes
Malaysian Chinese, Male, 28
Undergraduate: Majored in IT, top private local university. 3.16 GPA
Post-Grad: Majored in Computer Science, same private local university. 3.61
GMAT: 730 ( Q:49, V:40, AWA: 6.0)
Work Experience: about 6 years upon matriculation
Chronology of work experience:
1. Currently working at a Dutch software firm, Quintiq, that provides Advanced Planning Solution. Been here for about 2 years. Started off as a software consultant. 8 months later I got promoted as an Algorithm Consultant, handling logistic clients. My role deals with analyzing and understanding the logistic operations of the client and trying attempt to optimize the operations using mathematical equations and the solution we provide to forecast expected results.
2. Previous job, worked for Panasonic R&D company as a technical leader and systems architect for 2 years. Was promoted to that position after 6 months in the company.
3. I have 2 more other jobs prior to #2, that only lasted 6 months and 3 months.
EC:
1. I did not participated in EC's in college as I was working to pay for my college expenses.
2. Prior to college, I was very active in community clubs and was a sports representative of my district until I suffered an injury that resulted in a broken hand.
3. Post college, I took part again in ECs. I mostly do sports and clothes donation drives for the community homes that I had visited during my days in high school.
Career goal:
Short term - Management consulting in strategics and operations. My plan is to develop my skills while earning a substantial amount to pay off my school loans and save up for the next step of my career plans.
Long term - Non-profit development for underprivileged countries specializing in developing sustainability (in terms of energy, agriculture, sanitization, etc.)
Target schools: Tuck (my main target), HBS, Booth, Duke, Darden
Questions:
1) Am I aiming too high for my target schools?
2) Should I be concerned about my ECs, especially based on the fact that I'm not in any big named groups involved in community service? Most of the things I've done are voluntary by rounding up a group of friends and we plan them together.
3) Should I be more clear on my career goals? Especially the long term ones, like naming an organization that I would be interested in?
4) Is my 3.16 undergad gpa considered low?
5) I was awarded a short scholarship to study business in Hawaii for 3 months, should I be listing that as well?
6) Any other schools to recommend? I would like a school with a tight community and has a strong standing in consulting and CSR studies.
