Hi there,
I wanted to submit my profile for an evaluation to have some thoughts on the strengths and weak points of my application. Appreciate your help.
1) Brief description of your full-time work experience.
I have more than 8 years of experience as a consultant starting
* 1 year in business development for Software product development as part of an off-shore marketing team
* 3 years in Automotive technology consulting with a boutique consulting company, Frost & Sullivan, India - publishing papers and representing the company in conferences etc. Started managing 1 team member and had quick progression 3 promotions
* Moved to London, UK on request of my employer and took up an Intrapreneurial role by starting up a new division that I run for 2 years. Started managing a virtual team of 3 analyst sitting in Warsaw, San Antonio, TX and Chennai, India
* About 2.5 years since I joined Nielsen BASES to consult on Go-to-Market strategies for consumer goods companies. Smaller team since the org. struct is flat but closer engagement and responsibility for rev topping 1M.
2) Your GMAT.
680
Quant - 90th %ile
Verbal - 59th %ile
AWA - Scores yet to be received
IR - Scores yet to be received
I am especially concerned that I belong to a demographic that is quite common and only have a soft GMAT verbal score. Is it possible to off-set this with the additional essay and explain my proficiency via my work experience and consulting experience?
3) College info: The name of the college, your GPA or grade average, your major, year of graduation. For any graduate degrees, please provide the same info. If you grades are low, please indicate if there were extenuating circumstances.
Name: Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani {Ranked in the Top 10 Schools in India}
GPA: 7.56/10
Degree: Master of Management Studies {4 year integrated Masters Programme}
Major: Marketing Management
Year of Graduation: 2004
4) Significant college and post-college extra-curricular activities or community service, especially leadership experience.
- Ardent runner: Run 4 full marathons in Brussels, Paris, Edinburgh, Berlin and training for my 5th & 6th in Portsmouth and Brighton.
- Founder of BITS2Marathon: A college alumni running club that has got put more than 3,000 BITSians on the road via annual running events over the past 4 years. The club has a continuous membership of more than 250 runners and aims at bringing together alumnus in an attempt to stay fit, network and have fun. I have been able to pass on executive responsibilities to my successor in the last year.
- Have been invited as Chairman and Speaker in many Automotive conferences organized by IQPC and CTI in Germany
- Invited by many TV shows as a regular analyst to offer opinions on emerging market trends in the Automotive Industry - spoken on CNBC, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters, France 24 and Al Jazeera to name a few TV channels.
5) Important certifications like CFA, CPA, FSA, or CA.
- Unfortunately, none. Do you have any advice to fix this? I was contemplating a certification in program management such as Prince, but never got around to doing it.
6) Your target programs.
Round 2:
- London Business School
- Cambridge Judge
- Oxford Said
- Insead - September Intake
- Kellog {my only non- EU application}
Round 1:
- MDI, Switzerland
7) Your post-MBA goal.
Pursue a career in Management Consulting. I have build my pre-MBA career mostly around Marketing growth, new product innovation, go-to-market assessment of new or existing product development. I would like to develop consulting skills that will help me engage on broader organizational issues across the organization, such as M&A, Org restructuring etc.
Please let me know if I should provide any further information.
Thanks & regards,
Vignesh
