Career Goals:
As pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device companies have faced major challenges such as pricing pressures they have looked to operations to maximize profits. Therefore upon graduation I would like to work as a consultant for a top pharmaceutical consulting firm such as ZS Associates, Mckinsey, or Deloitte and focus on operations. Following 4-5 years in consulting, I would like to enter a large pharmaceutical company as a senior manager in their operations department.
Schools:
R1: H/S/W
R2: Sloan, Columbia, Yale
Additional:
As noted in the header I am the first in my family to go to college and grew up in a poor farming community. This is what I am going to write about in my essays.
Also have a misdemeanor for running from a house party in college 4 years ago.
Any suggestions to add/remove schools or how to better round out my candidacy would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks again!!
Hey there!
So things look pretty good for you.
Let's have a look at your profile:
The Good stuff:
- Great GMAT
- High GPA
The less good stuff:
- Engineer
- Who wants to make an industry change to Pharma
- From a non-target school
As far as school selecting goes, I think you can with no problem keep your school list in the Top20, but I think you should spread things out a bit. Right now your list is basically Top5, and you may find that a bit challenging. You don't have any major weaknesses in your profile, which is fantastic, but you do have enough minor ones that the really tough schools will have enough candidates without those weaknesses. So best would be to choose say two schools from the top 5, two from the next five, and then 2 from the second 10. If Phrama is truly your thing then Ross, Duke, and Haas will all be good options for you (although like I wrote above, I'm not sure these are the best goals, since you don't have any Pharma work in your career history - but it's something to think about)
I hope this helps!
Best,
JF
