A 720 GMAT would probably improve your chances at all the programs, especially
MIT,
INSEAD, and
LBS, but you do have a chance at all the above with your current 680. I am not at all worried about the AWA.
I am concerned about your
unemployment. If I understand you correctly, you are currently unemployed and have been unemployed because you resigned in order to apply to LBS. Admissions committees don't consider applying to business school a full-time occupation. My strongest piece of advice to you is to get a job so that you can portray yourself as a dynamic, growing professional who has the time management skills to handle a demanding job and the application process. That's what your competition is doing. If retaking the GMAT would prevent or postpone getting a job, then don't retake the GMAT.
