My Portfolio:-

GMAT :-

GMAT 1:- 640 (IR5, Q49, V27, AWA 5) , Took test on May 7th, 2014
GMAT 2:- 700 (IR8, Q48, V38, AWA 5) , Took repeat on Sep 12th, 2014

Schools: -

10th Grade GPA:- 85% (Central Board Secondary Education)
12th grade GPA:- 90.5% ( Andhra State Board)
Undergrad GPA:- 3.33 ( Bachelors in Computer Science, 1999-2003)
Grad GPA:- 3.47 (Masters in Computer Science, 2003-2005)

Accomplishments at schools:-

In 10th grade, got a 0.1 certificate of merit for scoring high percentage in Math/Quant. Across India, my score was in top 0.1% of people.
In Grad School, worked as a Research Assistant under a renowned professor

Work (completely in US) :-
Worked as s/w engineer as a developer for 2 yrs in small IT company
Worked as IT consultant as developer for 1 yr in IBM
Worked as Functional Analyst for 2 yrs for a product company
Worked as Team Lead for 2+ years for the same product company
Worked as IT consultant as developer for 2 yr in IT consulting company
Working as SME for IT consulting company Deloitte

If my work is any differentiation, Software that I work on is completely related to US Federal Accounting and US federal Financials.

Certifications:
ITIL
SQL & PL/SQL

Interests:
Sports (Playing and watching)
Travel


Schools I am Interested:

1st Priority:

Darden ( General Management, I am resident of Virginia for past 8 years)
Ross (Corporate Strategy)
Tuck (corporate Strategy)
Duke (General Management)

2nd priority:
UNC Kenan Flagler
Cornell
Tepper

BTW I am 33 yrs old waiting for my Green Card. Hopefully and very likely I might get it next year. So I want to apply to schools in their Fall semester as a full time student.

Please let me know if my ambition is realistically possible.

Hi there,

Thanks for posting and sharing.

So your 700 GMAT is respectable. Undergrad grades could be better; grad school grades are more appropriate. Your IT work sounds extensive; one challenge is that there are a LOT of Indian IT male applicants applying to US b-schools these days! It's quite competitive. Your level of experience is less common-- but could raise questions-- if you have what, 10?, years of experience--- do you really NEED this degree? Is this really the right point to go for a full time MBA? What would your post-MBA career look like? While schools won't necessarily select against age, the average age at a lot of the US programs is 26-27, and you will be on the much-more -experienced end of the scale.... they may wonder if you have looked into part time or exec or other types of programs. Some of it can just come down to how well you tell your story and make your case for needing this degree!

You really made a relevant and a good point.

Sad but true reasons I didn't pursue MBA earlier are below

1) Green Card (GC):- To get a GC, I need to continue in the same job profile that I applied GC. After I applied for my GC, its not advisable to change role or responsibilities of my job profile. So I was not able to apply for better roles and jobs in other domains till now.
2) Job Prospects:- Many MBA related jobs (except IT industry) are reluctant to sponsor visa & GC after graduation, so I wanted to be safe. Never imagined my GC process would take this long to materialize.

The reason I want to enroll in full time MBA is because I am more interested in Corporate strategy specialization. So I wanted to apply to Ross & Tuck. If I dont get admit into Ross & Tuck, I am ok with MBA in general management (darden or tepper) because I want to find a better job/position/responsibilities than my current job.

I know I need to put in strong response than the above. If my ambition is a realistic possibility (if I have atleast 50% chance), then I will like to pursue my ambition. Please let me know.

Gotcha. It is probably worth a shot; may come down to how well you tell your story of your strengths, leadership, rationale, goals etc... and how well you stack up against others!! You could add a school outside the top 20 if you want to increase your odds overall.
