GPA: 3.3
School/Major: Top 5 US Engineering School, Industrial Engineering. A's in calculus, prob, stat, and other math courses. Bs and some Cs in advanced engineering courses. One semester studying abroad in an American program in France.
GMAT: 760, 49Q, 46V, 8IR, 6AWA. Up from a 720 taken three weeks prior.
Work Experience: 1 year as a tech consultant at a software company, 2 years (so far) as a strategy consultant at a large consulting firm (think Deloitte/EY/Accenture), promoted after one year (normal is 2-3, one year is almost unheard of and often impresses people internally)
Extra Curricular Activities: Currently part of a program to mentor college students at my undergrad alma mater. Volunteering at food banks, animal shelters, tree-planting events, and other things. Was the head of community service committee for Residence Life (RAs) in college. Thinking about joining a youth mentoring program
Extras worth mentioning: Worked for 3-4 months in a developing country doing strategy consulting work for non-profit organizations. Took a 50% pay cut to do this.
Gender/Ethnicity/Facts: Male. Bangladeshi immigrant (citizen now). Moved to the US as a kid because parents thought my siblings and I would have better educational opportunities if we grew up in the US school systems. We were super poor when I was young.
Reasons for MBA:
1. Leverage experience working in operations strategy to acquire a senior managerial position at a large healthcare corporation. I want to help transform healthcare systems in terms of costs, efficiency, and adaptability to new processes and technologies.
Or
2. Leverage experience working in operations strategy to acquire a leadership position at a large product or services company. I want to be able to lead a company in continuously improving their operations in terms of people, processes, and technologies to gain a competitive edge in the market as well as support business growth.
Sorry if that sounds vague. Basically, I ultimately want to run operations at a large company. I'm not sure what type of company yet, but I do have an interest in healthcare (even though I don't have any experience in it) because that seems to be among the most broken systems in the US.
Target Schools: HBS, Wharton, Booth, Columbia, Tuck, Darden, Sloan, Kellog, Stanford (aiming high, I know)
Target Matriculation Date: Fall 2017
What do you guys think? Do I have a shot? If not, what do I need to do over the next year to raise my chances?
