Hello davingmat, thanks for your question.
Regarding your GMAT, your 710 should open doors at those programs you mention (assuming 80% on both quantitative and verbal), but would not move the needle as much as it would otherwise, given that you come from an overrepresented demographic in the MBA applicant pool. Still, if you cleared 80% on both sides, I don’t think there would be a need to retake it.
What does your GPA equate to?
Not to answer a question with a question, but the issue of suitability depends on more than your GMAT and GPA. Depending on your specific career needs, which programs have strength/resources that address your requirements? Which programs have a culture that matches your personality?
I think your quants should open the door at Wharton and Berkeley, but it is your experience that will get you admitted, especially for executive programs.
In terms of maximizing your chances:
- Your competitiveness will come down to the quality of your work experience. Can you draw upon “moments” when you truly led: influenced individuals and organizations, drove results, took initiative?
- In terms of your post-MBA goals, paint a picture that cohesively ties together your past, present, and future. Demonstrate to the admissions committees that your desired career path necessitates an MBA. Identify the specific gaps that stand between you and your career goals (knowledge, skills, experiences, network, etc.) and show how business school would directly address those gaps.
Hope this helps.
Best of luck,
Brian
