Hi there,
Thank you for your post and sharing your story, and my sympathies and support go out to you and your family at this challenging time.
Congrats on a solid GMAT score, and while I wouldn't say you need to re-take per se, if you feel you can do even better and have the time and energy etc then go for it as anything you can do given your GPA would help! Unfortunately even with the circumstances that could be a tough GPA to overcome to be honest... but you could give it a shot and see what happens, otherwise you are not giving the school the chance to make that decision... but you should know it's quite a reach. They might be worried about your ability to juggle everything even at their program, or work-wise in the meantime as well. Additionally the more well-defined your initial professional plans are post-graduation, the more convincing your story will be overall, especially if/when you get to an interview stage. So at this point you can either give it a shot to see, or focus on building that professional story in the coming few years, and perhaps taking some coursework and doing well also (to show you can handle academics better than you have been) and apply at that point... you may still come out with the same outcome ultimately.
Good luck to you!
