Q: The girls' average score is 30. The boys' average score is 24. If there are twice as many boys as girls, what is the overall average?

I have the answer, but I am not sure how to get it. Can someone elaborate please? Thanks...

Let there are x girls
So there are 2x boys

sum of scores of all girls = 30 * x
sum of scores of all boys = 24 * 2x

Avg of whole class = total score / tota students
= (30x + 24*2x) / (x+2x)

Let X be the number of girls, Y be the number of boys.
We need to find ((30(X)+24(Y))/(X+Y))
We are given that Y=2X
hence ((30X+24(2X))/(X+2X))
= 78X/3X = 26
