I am looking forward to apply to Johnson in R1 this year (deadline 1st Oct). I have written all my essays somehow assuming that the limit is 1000 characters. I just realized that the limit is 2000 characters. This means there is a lot of scope to play and I've not used it.
Now, it's Sunday evening in India. My daily job from tomorrow morning doesn't give me any scope to work on it.
What do you think I should do? Should I submit it anyway or Should I postpone to R2?
Between incomplete and ineffective essays submitted in R1 and well drafted, impressive essays submitted in R2, I would go with the latter any day. 1000 character essays give you space to use only half the permissible length. The adcom will either think that you don't have much to say (boring person ....zzzz) or that you don't follow instructions.
Both ways, you set the wrong impression.
Dear Namita Garg. Most certainly we appreciate your input, but you're saying BS! The Admission office has changed the limits three (!) times since the application system went live in July or so. I talked to them on the phone in August to verify that they were not going to change the limit again when they decided to go with the 1000 character limit. I was told, that it was going to stay for the app season. And what do you know?! They decided to change their mind a little later.
If they decide to penalize someone for actually following their instructions but not jumping through the hoops when it's September and the admission team still does not know what it wants to hear, then sorry Cornell, you have some serious problems. Perhaps they need to think everything through before they launch the app season, since the changes feel like a slap in the face of those who were interested in Johnson.
