Need a peer review. Im stuck at crossroads wrt my future plans.
Indian Male 30, SF bay area, Software professional
Masters from USC, Grad GPA 3.5. GMAT score- 660 (45,36) 650(48,31) - this is my biggest worry. I was told that many schools may consider the best of both scores- which would put me in the 700 range
3) Work experience:Technical lead, thinking about switching to Sales or Tech Marketing. Have been promoted to senior software in record time
4) Extracurricular: I have volunteered for some NGO organizations but nothing stunning. THis is the area i am trying to fix. Leadership outside of work.
5) Short/Long term goals: Short term- move to Product Management/ Long term move to Product line management - senior management positions
6) Schools: UC Berkeley is my main focus.
I applied in 2010- R4 for the part time program and here is the feedback i received.
1) Strong GPA, at work leadership skills, technicall prowess, well defined short term and long term goals.
2)6 years work work exp, median was 8.
3) Gmat score was low- especially cause i was in the Indian male category.
4) Outside of work leadership skills- were missing in application.
I got this feedback in late June. I dont think i can change much in 6 months. I have joined the planning committee for a charity organization. Question is- do i absolutely have to retake my GMAT? I feel i had a bad day on the verbal section the second time around. Yet, spending another 3-4 months on the prep seems wasteful of my time. I would rather spend that time honing some other skills.
Please feel free to advise as critically and blatantly as possible.
thanks in advance.
