school selection [#permalink] New post 16 Oct 2011, 10:24
Hello,
I have short-listed to the following schools:
Wharton Georgetown Rutgers
NYU Penn State Smeal Baruch
Harvard Boston University Temple
MIT Boston College Drexel
Yale
Tepper
Columbia
Princeton (MS in Finance)
Cornell (1 Year program)

How many should I apply to and how do I choose amongst these. I have already applied to Wharton, am applying to BU, and am definitely applying to NYU.
Thanks a lot!!

Hi anirudh316,

I would not recommend applying to more than 8 programs, as you will end up spreading yourself too thin among all of the applications.

For your list of schools, you should first identify what you are looking for in a program (post-graduate opportunities, location, etc.). At that point, you should consider your application and the competitiveness of the school. The programs you have listed will provide very different experiences, so it is important to find out what you are really looking for. You should also consider where you might be interested in working after graduation, and whether the school has ties to that industry or particular company.

Best,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team

Thanks a lot for the help.
I am going to bring it down to around 8 schools.
Since schools like MIT and Harvard have similar rankings and both are great programs, and my chance of getting into either is roughly the same, how do I choose one over the other?

Hi anirudh316,

I recommend you speak to current students and alumni at both programs. You should also visit both schools if you have the opportunity. Additionally, both of these schools will hold presentations throughout the country where you can learn more about each.

Best,

Conrad and the Stacy Blackman Team
