The children totally donated 28 clothes to an institution. If the range of the numbers of the clothes denoted by each child is 2, how many children denoted exactly 3 clothes?

II:5
III:9

Is the first word "Ten" instead of "The"?

And if this is the case then the answer is 9.

It can't be zero, since if so the question implies everybody donated four or more, other wise the range could not be two. However the minimum must be smaller than 3 since otherwise total clothes would be more than 30. You could test the other two out from here.

Or you could assume numbers of children who donated 1, 2, 3 clothes are a, b, c.

a+2b+3c=28
a+b+c=10
=>b+2c=18
since b+c<10 =>c>8 => Only option available is c=9.

Of course the question doesn't seem to be very good. Since there are more than one answer to this question, although it didn't list those out.

(For example 3*2+6*3+1*4=28.)
