Try read vertically:

As soon as you see 'they' ask yourself, who are 'they' referring to? In this case, there are no plural subject 'they' can refer to. A, C, E out.

B&D left.

D is out because of ' land mismanagement that are not preventable'

Try reading:
Land mismanagement that are not preventable often cause much larger swings in the population than anticipated.

Sounds quite awkard....

A, C & E are out because of pronoun problem. D is out as 'land mismanagement' is singular. So, B.

- parallelism.
- Subject-verb agreement: "mismanagement that "ARE"???
