Hi. I would like to know whether I should write this particular para in my statement of purpose to answer this question: "If you feel that any aspect of your past, which is part of your application, to be detrimental to your application (e.g. poor undergraduate GPA), this is where you would discuss this problem area and how you have addressed it." Following is what I wrote:
During my undergrad, I did not perform too well, no matter how hard I tried. In retrospect, I must admit, it would have been a great help if I could have changed my approach to study. I realized late, but not too late, that my performance is good while studying in a group. That’s what made me clear the certification exams in the first attempt itself where the clearance rate is as low as 35%. Clearing such an exam increased my confidence and gave me hope to pursue a career in accounting. I have, also cleared the certification exam in the first attempt which had a clearance rate of 32% for group-I set and 29% for group-II set of subjects. I believe this exhibits my passion and determination for this discipline and the will to make a career in this profession. I assert to keep the passion alive and bring an increased level of enthusiasm in the class should I be accepted to the master’s program.
