too old for MBA ? [#permalink] New post 11 Mar 2013, 00:33
Hi

I am 31 with a specialized MBA degree in Marketing and have 5 years of work experience . I am interested in pursuing another MBA degree to step up my career in General Management . Have been reading in the various blogs that 31 is too old for the Ivy league colleges to accept me . Is it true ? Could you advise me on the alternatives available to me please .

Thanks .

The answer to this question is that it depends on which schools you are targeting --as some schools are more receptive to mature candidates than others. The one thing that mature candidates have to be aware of is that their goals and motivations are compelling and believable. Also, mature candidates are expected to do very well in interviews -- so preparation is a must.

As for those schools that we have seen to be most receptive to older candidates include: Wharton, Columbia, Booth, Sloan, Johnson, Fuqua and Yale. Once again, the preference changes from year to year but we have seen these schools be receptive year after year.

Good luck
