If you feel they are strong other than being short I wouldn't worry about it. I was below on my MIT essays, a couple were over 10% short. They read well, much better than if I added filler. I went with them after talking with an adcom at MIT who said they look more favorably on people who go under than over...being consise is a huge part of writing in b-school and later in business.

On a 1500 word essay its not going to be as noticeable but just make sure you answered the entire question. A couple hundred words is enough to add an a little story or something to strengthen it so if you can come up with something out of another application that you can work in that can be a way of adding some if you feel you need to.

You can always specificy classes, clubs, professors, parts of the school you like. Having more room to show your fit is always a good thing...let them know how much you love them and the city.

Thanks for the suggestions man! I really appreciate it. Will take a closer look and see what I can do :) I was concerned that ad coms might think that I didn't do my research and networking enough if I fell short of the limit.... didn't want to give a bad impression that I didn't have much to say except to let me in....

keep in mind that chicago asks about "personal" goals in addition to professional ones. you can talk about your personal interests in clubs, or living in the city, etc.
