Tuck Leaderhip Essay Help Needed [#permalink] New post 29 Sep 2007, 22:40
The question is

Tuck defines leadership as “inspiring others to strive and enabling them to accomplish great things.” We believe great things and great leadership can be accomplished in pursuit of business and societal goals. Describe a time when you exercised such leadership. Discuss the challenges you faced and the results you achieved. What characteristics helped you to be effective, and what areas do you feel you need to develop in order to be a better leader?

I have written two versions of this essay each focusing on different story.

The first story is about my experience as Vice-Chairman Computer Society of India- my undergraduate school society. Over a period of one I had helped to increase memberhip by threefold, started intiative that helped members focu on their carrier and managed to generate a significant sponshorhip for the whole event. But this example is close to three years old.

The second story i when I lead team to establish a offhore support for one of client companies. My role was preparing the entire plan, selecting my team, training them for the job and ensuring that they can work on their own. I managed to complete the project before schedule and under budget resulting in significant savings for the client. The team is now on its own and I play a mentoring role.

I would like to know which story should I use and also how could I put in the inspirer in me in these essays. Gmattclubers could you please help me in deciding which story to use.

to me, the second story shows off your skills of managing a group of people and empowering them to be successful on their own.

I would pick the 2nd one.
