B) The most read magazine in America is National Geographic, whose total monthly circulation is around 8.5 million copies.

Can someone please explain why ' A ' is wrong? I understand why ' B ' is correct. But isn't ' A ' also correct?

Hi,

'totaling around 8.5 million copies' is a modifier that modifies monthly circulation. Now remove the modifier and check whether the sentence makes sense.

The most read magazine in America is National Geographic, with monthly circulation. - This makes no sense at all. Hence A is not correct.

Hope it helps.

Hi Vyshak, thanks a lot. Yes that makes sense now. But I have a very basic level doubt now. In such sentences, how do you identify that [something] is a modifier?
