Wow, I had a difficult time understanding the passage, and answering the questions too. I tried to paraphrase each para as I went on, but lost it. Would this passage be considered a tough one?

very tough passage, among the toughest scientific passages I've come across
took close to 14 minutes to answer the q's, and I have little faith in my answers
