which schools are strong on asset management/investment? [#permalink] New post 19 Jul 2014, 18:32
Thank you in advance for your precious ideas.

I come from China. After graduation in 2006, I started to work in a Chinese state-own petroleum trading company in Beijing China. Currently I work as a derivatives trader. I trade swaps and futures, mostly for hedging our physical trading. I got an offer from Boston College in 2014 but declined due to financial reasons. I plan to reapply this year.

I want to go to US, the only world financial center, to get an MBA. My post MBA career interest is to work in asset management. I may start from derivative assets, such as petroleum swaps, futures and options, firstly or then expand into other financial assets such as stocks and bonds, etc. After MBA graduation, I hope to work in US for a period of time, get experienced and see where’s the best next place for me.

I wanna know which schools are suitable for me and my future career goals. And my scores: Gmat 730 TOEFL 103

Hey there,

Finance, as you know, is a game of pedigree. If you're interested in getting into that world, you need to go to the best possible school you can get into. So here's a list of programs that can help open the asset management doors you need cracked open!

- Booth
- Columbia
- Stern
- Wharton
- HBS
- Kellogg
- UCLA
- Stanford
- Ross

Haas is notable as well!

Hope that helps!

Hey Qin,

Yup - they're definitely "good" programs but with your experience and GMAT, none of those doors are specifically closed to you right off the bat. If you're interested in studying finance in the US and you want to do it at a school that defines finance, definitely don't cross those schools off your list prematurely just because they'll require a bit of work and luck. Definitely try!
