Private Tutoring Was Worth It

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I was thrilled to work with Mark. He knew his stuff and laid out the perfect plan for me to be successful. What I liked about the private tutoring was how personalized it was. I relayed my feedback on certain topics or question types and he was able to respond to that to meet my needs. We worked hard over 8 weeks and I got the score on the Executive Assessment that I was looking for on the very first try: 160 (18 IR, 11 VR, 11QR). Mark is extremely patient and has all the right strategies for success. He is someone that I think can help all different types of students as well. His style of tutoring is not one size fits all. If you are looking for a structured and personal experience, go with Mark.

Note: there was no section on here for executive assessment score so I just inputted it into the GMAT classic score what would be the equivalent for EA.

Exceptional GMAT Journey with Dave Mahler (Class and Tutoring)

REVIEWER IDENTITY VERIFIED by score report [?]

I completed the 9-week Manhattan Prep GMAT course with Dave Mahler, and I must express my utmost gratitude for the experience. Dave's teaching prowess, coupled with the vibrant class environment he cultivated, made my GMAT preparation not only effective but also enjoyable.

The 9-week course served as a solid foundational introduction, and Dave's expertise shone through as he navigated us through intricate GMAT concepts and strategies. As someone with rusty math skills, I found the math foundations and test strategies explored in the class to be concise and immediately applicable.

Following the course, I decided to enhance my preparation further through private tutoring with Dave. This decision turned out to be invaluable. Dave's insight into the nuances of GMAT, coupled with his ability to explain complex concepts and strategies, was truly exceptional. He was able to diagnose my flawed test-taking strategies and, through private lessons, sharpened both my quant and verbal reasoning skills.

Beyond his instructional abilities, what sets Dave apart is his unwavering optimism and encouragement. Throughout the entire process, he proved to be a firm supporter, making it evident that he was genuinely invested in my success. This personalized approach not only bolstered my confidence but also created a supportive learning environment.

In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Dave Mahler as a GMAT instructor. Whether you are starting with the 9-week course or seeking private tutoring, his expertise, encouragement, and personalized approach make for an exceptional GMAT preparation experience. Thanks to Dave, I not only improved my GMAT score but also gained invaluable insights that extend far beyond the test itself.

Strengths:

Personalized, personable, extremely helpful, TRULY GOT RESULTS, and was worth more than every penny.

Would make the product better:

I can't think of anything he could've done differently to help me more. Above and beyond amazing.

I got private tutoring with Mark, and he made things so easy for me.
First, I was impressed he didn't make me do a ton of random practice problems on some form just so he could tell me what areas I needed improvement in. He was able to diagnose from my practice test scores & official GMAT score I had taken.
He created a very individualized plan to help me improve, and I really looked forward to every meeting we had. He was so helpful & personable it truly was just incredible.
After each session, he assigned homework (with links! again just so helpful at every turn, making my life easy) that was very specific to me and helpful to my exact areas of weakness.

My goal from the tutoring session was to improve my score from 700 to high 700s. Jeff was very helpful in designing a study plan for me in the right range of difficulty level. He also accurately identified my weak areas, and we spent majority of our tutoring session on my weak areas (turned out indeed to be the right thing to do). I felt that the 10-hour tutoring session with Jeff & the very targeted homework he assigned me saved me a ton of time.

Jeff has a very solid knowledge base of the GMAT materials and is extremely clear in communication. He is also quick in understanding complex concepts on the spot - I brought many challenging questions to our tutoring sessions, and it often took him very little time to understand, solve and then explain those questions to me.

Jeff's extensive experience is also helpful, demonstrated by the fact that he would sometimes understand exactly what my confusion was before I was able to pinpoint or communicate it in a clear way. Jeff also knows many practical test-taking strategies.

Over our 10 weeks of tutoring sessions, I sent Jeff many emails of questions I didn't understand. He responded to them and went over them with me either via email or in class. This level of customized help was very important for me to understand concepts in an efficient manner and to solidify my knowledge base.

I would not have been able to study as efficiently and effectively without Jeff's help. I appreciated all my tutoring sessions with him and would highly recommend Jeff to anyone seeking a helpful tutor!

I had the privilege of working with Jeffrey Vollmer from Manhattan Prep as my GMAT tutor. Jeff's mastery of the GMAT was evident in his deep understanding of each question type and his ability to develop effective test strategies.

Jeff knowledge of the GMAT was truly impressive. He possessed an in-depth understanding of the intricacies of each question type, enabling him to guide me through various problem-solving approaches and techniques. Whether it was critical reasoning, data sufficiency, or sentence correction, he had a wealth of insights and tactics to share. His expertise not only helped me grasp the fundamental concepts but also gave me the confidence to tackle even the most challenging questions.

Moreover, Jeffrey's talent for developing personalized test strategies was invaluable. He didn't just provide generic tips; he took the time to understand my strengths, weaknesses, and learning style. Jeff taught me how to dissect problems effectively, manage my time wisely, and make informed decisions during the exam. Jeff was incredibly helpful in improving my score by 40 points (710 --> 750). He pinpointed my weaknesses in both verbal and quant, even though I had really only flagged verbal as a concern. In addition to teaching me strategy and diving deeper into questions I was answering incorrectly, Jeff was just a calming presence with the perfect balance of pushing me to be better and serving as a motivational coach. After taking the GMAT a couple of times with no significant improvement in my score, I was thrilled when Jeff's coaching had a direct and quick impact on my studying tactics and score on test day.

I took the 9-week Manhattan Prep course with Dave, and in addition to his top notch teaching, the class environment he fostered also made the time more enjoyable. Overall, Manhattan Prep's UI was very good and the strategy guides were as well. I had never taken the GMAT before and no familiarity with test, and scored in the high 500s on my first Manhattan Prep CAT. After the class, which was a great foundational intro, I began tutoring with Dave. His insight and ability to explain concepts and strategies were excellent, and he always knew the right leading questions to ask. Dave helped me fine tune my processes, time management, and strategy execution, and I scored a 710 on my first real GMAT. Just a month later, after only focusing on the areas that Dave helped me identify, I nailed my target score of a 730. I am thrilled with my improvement and I cannot recommend Dave highly enough!

Chris Gentry made the difference

I began my GMAT studying in May 2020. After 2 test attempts, my highest score was a 640 and I felt like I had hit a plateau. In the past, I've always pushed through this kind of test roadblock, but this time was different. This time I needed help.

After some research, I chose Manhattan Prep and was paired with Chris Gentry. It's been incredible to work with someone as talented as Chris throughout my GMAT studying process. In addition to being really smart and skilled at the GMAT, Chris also has a great personality. But above all else, I've really appreciated Chris's flexibility and understanding. I always felt like Chris catered his lessons and plans to my strengths and tendencies, which allowed me to succeed in ways I could have never done myself.

After 4 months of prep, I was able to push through the plateau and score a 710. However, my time with Chris didn't end there. I also had plans to take the LSAT, and Chris again put me in the best position to succeed.

To master any standardized test is tough, even for the best test takers. But how hard is it to master two standardized tests, especially when they are applicable to separate fields? The obvious answer is really hard, but Chris was more than up to the task. With his help I walked into the 2021 October LSAT (just 4 months removed from my 710 GMAT) with more confidence than I could have ever imagined. While I won't know my LSAT score for a couple of weeks, I've seen success on a few practice test and feel confident that Chris has made the difference for me, again.

It should come then as no surprise that I heavily recommend having lessons with Chris, so that he can make the difference for you too!

Jeff is the best!

I initially requested Jeff to be my tutor after I had attended one of his free online GMAT prep hours and saw that he was strong in Quant. I was convinced that Quant was my weakness since I had a lower percentile score in Quant than Verbal. Right off the bat, he showed me how percentiles lie and recommended that I primarily focus my efforts on Verbal. He taught me how to effectively deconstruct an argument in critical reasoning questions and corrected some grammar misconceptions I had in sentence correction (i.e., adverbial vs. noun modifiers, -ing words are not all present tense). With reading comprehension, I learned to stick very closely to the text, especially for inference questions. Do not assume anything in verbal without evidence from the passage to back your conclusion!

I had considered giving up on the GMAT and MBA applications this year after taking the exam multiple times and not getting the results I wanted. With Jeff’s guidance and expertise, I found the motivation and vigor to keep going. Not only did I get the score I wanted, but I also enjoyed the process of studying for the GMAT. Highly recommend Jeff as a tutor if you are new to the GMAT or stuck in a rut but determined to reach your goal!
