There are much better scores and debriefs on this forum than what follows, but here are some quick tips from my experience:
1) Beware of "Boldface CR questions" on D-day.
I believe that I could have done better on verbal. In verbal section, I saw a boldface CR question somewhere between question#25-30. Since I had read somewhere that a boldface question means you are doing good on the test, I felt so ecstatic seeing it that my concentration level dropped considerably for remaining questions.
So make sure you keep you cool when you see a boldface question.
2) CR and RC:
When I started with preparation, after practice tests I always used to wonder whether some can really improve his/her CR and RC skills just by practice. But it's true that practice increases the speed tremendously.
Though I solved the most of 1000CR questions, I think what helped me most is
OG and
OG companion questions. I used to solve approx 14 randomly selected questions from each SC,CR and RC in 75 mins as a verbal test.
3)SC
It's well known that
MGMAT SC is the bible for SC. Try to solve SC question in ~1 min.
4) Quants
Gmatclub forums and
Gmatclub Tests are the best resources. I used to solve one-two Quant tests a day for ~15 days prior to my exam. It helped me a lot.
I had some bad habits
1) I always wanted to solve every question right, and used to spend as much as 5 mins on some questions
...This is a terrible mistake; decide how much time you want to spend, and move on with an intelligent guess....Time is precious! More than 2 minutes, is going to kill your score.
2) Along with 1) , I was not solving the questions in a neat/ organized way. I used to get lost in my own solution just because it was badly written. This is disastrous in both PS and DS, because in PS, I always ended up re-doing the enitre calculation or in DS, had problems referring back to solution of statement 1)....So, make sure you develope a clean/neat way of solving the questions.
3) Note the given information carefully e.g. is it an integer or a positive integer. If you don't see word integer, immediately note one fraction. Develope your own strategy.
5) Gmatprep:
As already noted by many, a must!
I am thankful to all the gmatclubbers, particularly, walker, Ianstewart, x2suresh, ahijieet_sen, ritula, durgesh79, icandy.....
All the best for your prep.!
