Calling all UCLA Anderson Fall 2010 applicants!

For anyone interested, during my visit, one of the 2nd years mentioned the new Anderson employment report has been released:

Lots of specifics for the class of 2009 full-time and class of 2010 summer job results.

I had my interview in NYC with an alumni and it lasted nearly 1.5 hours. I believe this was much longer than both of us had anticipated, largely because the interview became very much a conversation about my goals and experience and his experience at Anderson. I had the traditional questions asked (Tell me about yourself, Why Anderson, Why now?, Long/short-term career goals). The only un-traditional question was still not too bad. He asked about what I hoped to get out of business school.

I just got an email from UCLA.

Anderson is having a group visit on March 2nd, which will include info session, class visit, and lunch w/ student. I just signed up to go.

I just got that too--but they havent invited me to interview yet....at this point I dont want to waste my time if I am not even going to be invited to interview!

Do you think if we visit the campus, we'll have a better shot at getting an interview?

I don't think that is for them to make any determinations about you as a candidate. It's for you to learn more about the school. There's no more space to sign up anyway. That didn't last very long...

On another note, I had my interview today too. Very straight forward like everyone says. He didn't ask anything tricky. We probably only covered 5 questions - I believe knowing the answers to the first 3 will carry almost your entire interview like it did mine:

-Walk me through your resume
-Why do you want a MBA now
-Why UCLA, what aspects about this school attracted you
-What is your weakness
-Describe a situation where you acted as a leader, describe challenges you faced and what you did to overcome.

Last 5 minutes were for me to ask him questions. He seemed to get a little anxious when I asked how the career center and the associations have helped prepare him to find a job. He actually hadn't found a job yet, like so many people, and mentioned that only 10-20% of the job offers were landed through the school. Sounds like you really need to take personal initiative when job hunting, even with MBA school.

I got an interview invite last night.

R2 app, GMAT 740, Decent undergrads, 4.7 years experience in IT operations (2 years in Japan and Mid-East), New Delhi

Did anyone get an invite for a "special" campus visit opportunity? I am an R2 applicant that already interviewed on campus... Not quite sure why I was sent this, or if it went to everyone.

i got the invite after i got home from my interview. filled up almost immediately though.

I got the invite too, and I interviewed last week. I assume it just went to their entire distribution list of prospective students.

My app status still says:


Submission Status: Submitted
Submitted Date: 1/6/2010 8:30:00 PM E.S.T.
Your application is complete for committee review.


What does that mean? They haven't even started reviewing it yet?

The status won't update further than that. You won't see any other status updates than that until the admissions decision is released.

does anyone know when the Admit Weekend (A-Days) will be held for R2 and R3 applicants? I'm guessing sometime in April, but haven't been able to find official word...

April 10-11

It seems that UCLA is less likely to waitlist or differ candidates (esp. from non-R1's) than some. Would you all agree?

Any thoughts on how truly grim prospects are at this point w/o an interview?

On behalf of those still awaiting interview invites, I would like to mention my disgust for the dry humping provided by the "Join us on campus for a special visit" e-mail. At least I have been numbed by Booth doing this to me every week with some bogus chat invite. These guys are heartless!!

MJ Shores posted on Twitter last week that there are a lot of invites expected to go out this week... I wouldn't panic yet.
