Re: Calling all UNC Kenan-Flagler 2010 applicants [#permalink]
Hi all ,

I am new here. I have been invited for a interview by UNC today.
Weird thing is that I haven't even submit online application for final round yet,
the email is like following.
Do you guys think I should still go for this interview, even chance will be low than previous rounds???... :?:
they just want me to pay application fee?? strange...

---

We see that you have started an application to UNC Kenan-Flagler's MBA program. We are happy to inform you that you have been invited to interview as part of the Kenan-Flagler MBA application process. This is a positive indication of our assessment of your candidacy. In order to schedule your interview, you will need to submit Part I of the application.

We encourage you to complete your interview on-campus. As part of the on-campus interview experience, you will be able to sit in on a class, take a tour of our facility, and have lunch with current students. If an on-campus visit is not possible, we also offer phone, video and alumni interviews (in some locations). All interviews are equally weighted in the admissions process. Please visit the "Schedule an Interview" link at our Application Central site to select an interview date, time, type and other visit components (if you have not yet submitted Part I of the application, you will not be able to schedule an interview at this time).

I am speechless. (assuming UNc isn't like Kellogg where everyone gets interviewed) I have never heard of a case like this before. I received tons of pamphlets and emails from schools offering to waive app fees and etc, but this tops it all. The fact that it came from UNC is also a shock because it's a very respectable program.

My advice:

If they accept you and you are open to enrollment, then you should go ahead and take this offer. Otherwise, there really is no point. Consider this - If you apply to 5 schools and UNC is the only school that ends up accepting you (obviously, I am just making this up. I am not saying that this is going to happen to you), would you enroll? If not, then you shouldn't take this offer.

If you had a look at the Kenan's brochure, it stated that after you submit the application Part I, the admission team will determine whether you will get an interview invitation or not by looking at your resume and some of your details in Part I.

This is a positive indication.
According to https://www.businessweek.com/bschools/rankings/full_time_mba_profiles/unc.html,in the past, Kenan invited applicants around 90% from the pool each year.

By the way, congratulation that you got the first pass for the admission process!!

I'm pretty sure I was invited to my interview before I submitted a well. I had entered scores and information in the application, but I'm pretty sure I hadn't submitted yet (it was early action). Some people didn't get invites though, so i guess they don't send them to everyone. It's interesting...

Have you completed Part I? Could be you've got some stats that are interesting to them - what's your profile? I say go for it as it can only be a positive sign. Best of luck.

2010girl, did you write the GMAT yet? If you did, did you list UNC as one of the schools to receive your score? I have a feeling the GMAT score is one of the main factors in their decision to interview you or not especially in instances where they don't have a lot of other data points to judge your candidacy.

Fellow GMATclubbers,

What're your thoughts regarding asking UNC for more financial aid? Would that be considered inappropriate? It's one of my top choices, but another school has offered me 1/2 tuition scholarship, and UNC didn't offer me anything. (Oddly, the other school is higher ranked than UNC.) Do you think the financial aid office would consider giving me a scholarship if I told them that financial reasons are driving my decision? I don't want to get laughed at or be disrespectful... :(

Thanks in advance ...

Thank you, but does anyone know if they typically wait until the final day to announce acceptances?

i just got a "good news" voicemail from an admin at Darden which doesn't release until the end of the month either. their office is closed so i can't call back and ask what that good news is. does this mean other schools may do this too? cause i'm waiting on UNC as well. i interviewed about a month ago.

Yes, I believe most do. Michigan, for example, has a formal report date next Monday but all the "good news" calls went out Monday and Tuesday of this week.
