Re: Company A imported 10,500 widgets made of either brass or aluminum. [#permalink]
Answer = A. 420

Brass widgets \(= \frac{10}{100} * 10500 = 1050\)

Of these, 20% green & 40% red.

Remaining blue \(= 100-(20+40) = \frac{40}{100} * 1050 = 420\)

Answer A: 420.

Since 10% are made of brass - 1050.
Of these 20% are green and 40% are red. So 40% are blue.

So blue brass = 40% of 1050 = 40*1050/100 = 420.

A. 420
B. 840
C. 1050
D. 1680
E. 2100

Kudos for a correct solution.

OFFICIAL SOLUTION:

(A) Question asks for the number of brass widgets painted blue.

First, determine the number of widgets that are brass:
(0.1)(10,500) = 1,050

Next, determine the percentage of brass widgets that are painted blue: 100% – 20% green – 40% red = 40% blue

Finally, determine the number of brass widgets painted blue: (0.4)(1,050) = 420

Given : 10% of the Widgets are made of Brass of those 20% are colored green and another 40% are colored red

100 - 20 - 40 = 40%

40 % of 10% of 10500 = required

\(\frac{40}{100} * \frac{10}{100} * 10500\)

4 * 105 = 420
