I must say a Great Post...Thanks Dude...I am In..
I have to score..and I will score..
I recently gave Gmat and score 640.(Q 50, V 27)..prepared for 1 months..daily 14-15 hrs...
and got lowest score in verbal in the main test itself...

Anyways...failure gives us learnings..and one more chance of improvement..

Again energised myself...and planning to target RC as my performance in RC was fluctuating.
Going to read books suggested by BB...

Plan is like read lots of stuff...and everyweekend..give one test..
Anyhow...somehow...manage office..and get atleast 3 hours of dedicated study..

Thanks Once Again Dude... :-D

gurpreetsingh,

Long time, no updates?
Well, I have started working on my plan to give GMAT on 24th June 2010.

I am working on Verbal (30 SC, 20 CR and 3 RC) and Maths(20) questions daily + 1 hr reading.

Got busy at work :( so couldn't spend much time here.

Currently I m revising powerscore CR and I m quite happy I have improved a lot.
I was practicing untimely on Kaplan book( 50 questions) and got accuracy around 75-80%.
I know its not at par but I was even below 50.

I m done with 50 questions of RC ( 50 questions not passages) from kaplan , and its quite fluctuating.
Side by side I m reading one Indian novel and once its done I will start again with SC Mgmat.

One very important thing which was told to me by Bb and even I have observed while revising Cr bible is, when we do the same thing again we are more likely to remember as well as able to implement on the questions. So for me the key to success is revision lol....:)

Though literary I m not successful but for me success is continuous improvement.

Just want to know, how you study from the forum posts..Asked similar question my earlier post too.
Do you pick any question from SC forum and then read the solution to it? or you first try to solve it?

See I attempt the question from the all the 1000SC, Brutal SC and any question that is marked as tough, tricky or 700 plus Question in this forum and attempt first on my own and than compare it with the other users solution.

If I don't find the solution helpful on one forum, I try to search them on other forums and see there solution just for ur help
U can go to following site after attempting the 1000SC question
https://thousandsc.blogspot.com/
https://gmatsentencecorrection.blogspot.com

and see the solution from both
but do this only after you have completed og10,12 and verbal.

I hope this helps

i started with Manhattan SC... very good book but was unable to crack most of the OG problems..

so i went 1 step more down n started Cliff's Grammar book... after 10 days of labor on both MGmat n Cliff's , still not able to get more than 50-60 % correct... finally thought of giving it a break...

so started with CR for the time being.. Power score CR bible... now doing it... initially found that im understanding well the concepts.. but when difficult Q comes in Power score , not able to do that... cant understand even how the answers r being explained n related to the Stimulus sometimes when difficult Q comes n even sometimes in easy Q..

Do i need to relate everything in - stimulus..? as im just looking for Boundary Words , Extreme words in ans or Stimulus , Contender - loser technique etc only to find the answer WITHOUT any relation of the premises present in the stimulus...

Plz need some help in both SC n CR... Thanks

You already have done OG12 right so why not start with question that you did wrong since you got only 60% right.
you can pick up OG 10 as well attempt them and search for there solution if you are confused with the explanation given in OG itself.
you can pick Verbal O.G Review, 1000SC Questions and also Brutal SC questions which are already available here in the Gmat Club with solution.
It is upto you to decide what is best for you..... :-D
Another thing if you want to search for any question, search that question in Google and you will get links related to the question for all the forums......

I more thing you can do is Make a list which includes all the words that you think can create problem in sentence correction question For ex: the fact is ,being, have ,has ,had ,ing, that , will ,would , if , and so on whatever you remember and when you face a problem and that word to this list.
that will also help in pin pointing the area where the problem may appear...

Hi all

Am new to this Forum.

I plan to take GMAT by this year end.

I was going through another forum where people were discussing about e-gmat,an online course on SC.

DOes anybody have any idea about this?

Few people were very happy with their online material.

According to them they were able to improve their performance in SC from 60% to 80+

Hi anirudhsaraf7

I am no genius but i can advice you onething try to do OG12 and OG10 first for verbal and give GMAT Prep test.
and you may find your accuracy more than 80% in that case i don't think you will require any other course or material.

First Complete OG if you find that you are still not performing as you desire than you can think of going for other material.

Have you tried 1000 SC, CR & RC? I think they have some great questions. If you have time to spare, try them.

Thanks gurpreetsingh for creating this dedicated thread.

I am preparing for SC along with you guys. I tried a lot for RC but I do not think that RC can be improved beyond a certain limit. It all depends upon the passage you encounter.

I am going to start reading newspapers/books to improve RC.

Any recommendations for newspapers ?? specially for finance / worker/policies related passages.

here you go : improve-verbal-using-free-resources-101626.html

Good luck !!

Hello Friends,

I am done with OGs and Verbal Review for RC passages. Still I struggle few types of RC questions, specially inference/suggests questions.

I want to practice more questions, and I hope that it will increase my accuracy.
Please correct me if I am wrong and please suggest what should be solved for RC after OGs ?

Thanks,
Shilps

You just need to make sure that you're reading and absorbing the key content and message of the passage without wasting time on it too much. I've heard conflicting opinions, but I feel like the RC part is the one where you can actually get away with a lot of right answers without knowing too much of preparation as long as you ask yourself the following when you look at the passage:

1. What is the overall message?
2. What is the first para trying to convey? The second? The third?
3. What is the conclusion?

The third question is especially important in your case, since framing the conclusion is a crucial step in both CR and RC. And the key thing is not to frame your OWN conclusions, but to identify the conclusion laid out in the paragraph. The one common mistake a lot of people make is to make their own conclusions from what's given in the passage. Be warned that the conclusion stated in the passage might not be the most appropriate one, or it might be against your general knowledge of the subject matter, but for the GMAT you need to keep an open mind to everything that's said and treat it strictly as an academic passage.

As for the guide, you can find it in my signature.

I would also recommend looking at the RC Strategy Guide and Rhyme's Guide to Destroying RC (which I found amusing and useful at the same time)
