Getting recos and submitting them online ourselves [#permalink]
08 Sep 2010, 22:20
It might be a problem with my recommender that he/she might not be able to fill in the recommendation online in the given time frame considering the fact that i would be applying to almost 7 b -schools and he/she will have to do the same process for almost each school.
what is the usual process? Do the colleges give userid and pwd to recommender as well?? if yes cant we get it written from them in say doc file and upload it ourselves with the help of their userid and pwd? can this be done??? or the ip addr of the pc from where it has been submitted is also logged...??? because in this case it might get registered that the usual form n recomendations both hav been submitted from same pc??? how does this thing work???
plz enlighten me over the procedure of recommendations...

Pretty sure they monitor all interactions with your application. If its an issue for your recommender, see if the school will accept a recommendation via mail.

plz enlighten me over the procedure of recommendations... OK. basically it goes like this: 1. You input recomender's info including email - work email is preferred and i know Yale at least checks to confirm if it is non-work email. The recommender receives link with user/pass to fill rec. 2. if rec is NOT ABLE to access online then he/she has to mail the rec to the school. If you want to get a doc and upload it yourself wouldnt he have to do 7 anyhow? I guess he could give you his user/pass and you do it yourself but not sure about the ip tracking...

One of my recommenders had me log in for him and cut/paste the questions into a word file, so he wouldn't have to do it (for six schools). That would totally suck if they reject people based on the IP address of the applicant signing onto to the recommender's section just one time. Does anyone know more about this?

I highly doubt schools are going to go into IP addresses. That simply seems to be way too tedious and it's still quite impossible to track. As awkward as it sounds, my supervisor can definitely visit my place and work on my recommendation. Highly unlikely, but it can, of course, happen. So I doubt b-schools will reject/deny anyone for this reason. However, they can definitely just reject you w/out giving you a reason anyway, even if it IS about IP. I just simply do not believe bschools will outrightly state that as a rejection reason.
