The question I am trying to answer is:
Should I put the GMAT behind my back and move on to the GRE instead?~Brief GMAT History
I wrote the GMAT in 2008 with one month preparation and scored on it a 630 (Q 42, V 34). Ever since that time I have been wanting to improve on my score. Towards the last quarter of 2011 I started becoming more serious about my goal and started going through the
Manhattan Gmat guides in detail and making my own notes from them. I worked on
the official guide questions as well as the supplemental quant and verbal guides. I took practice tests on Saturdays and actually found the
MGMAT exams quite difficult. Here is how i scored:
MGMAT: 520 , 540, 580, 640, 670, 600
Closer to the exam date, I did the official cd exams and scored as follows: GMATPrep: 600, 630. On March 21, I wrote the exam and scored a 600 (Q 41, V32). For some reason I had a really difficult time with the first 10 quant questions of the exam. It was like, what is this?!! I know for sure that I was not tense, but I thought the questions looked quite difficult to solve.
Anyways, after the exam I didn't feel that well. Obviously, I was not that much encouraged after seeing my new mark, which was below my first one. A few days later I thought to myself, well, lets give it another shot in about close to two months.
In the meantime, I did the
MGMAT question banks, went through the
MGMAT exams to look at my mistakes and redo the questions again, purchased the
gmat club tests and did 15 of them (very difficult), finally I also did the GMAT Prep Question Pack1.
I didn't do that many practice exams because I felt concentrating on timed questions was more valuable for me at this stage. The two exams that I did were:
MGMAT (Reset exam 650) GMATPrep: (reset exam 710).
Yesterday, I wrote the actual test and scored a 620 (Q 40, V 35). This time around again I felt the first ten questions in the quant section were awkward, but less awkward than my last exam. I had quite some time on my hands after going through the first ten. Unfortunately, I left the last quant question blank (totally didn't pay attention to the time as I was thinking about the solution).
Going back to my question, I am not sure if this is a matter of my capabilities not being strong enough to hit a 700 or not. Quant is not my favorite thing, but I have stuck it out throughout this period.
Now, I am seriously considering doing the GRE in hopes that I may score in the 90th percentile in it instead of the GMAT. I do not want to waste my money registering for another GMAT exam and scoring in the 600 range.
So, I pose this questions to the GMAT experts on this forum. IF you were in my place, what do you think I should do? I would appreciate some detail in your response as this is a matter of months of time investment. thanks and looking forward to reading your responses.
