IR is not adaptive? [#permalink] New post 13 Aug 2012, 20:35
I think i saw in some posts that IR section is non adaptive,i.e, the level of difficulty of the questions will not change on the basis of answering the questions correctly or incorrectly.

Questions:-
1. I have been thinking about it, and can someone confirm that this is actually true?
2. If the IR section is non adaptive then if i give more time to the initial questions and try to solve them correctly instead of aiming for attempting all questions, will that negatively impact my score?

TIA

1. Correct. The IR section is not adaptive.

Please see the fifth question on the above link.

2. I believe only 8 of the 12 questions actually contribute to your IR score (out of 8). They don't tell you which questions are scored/not scored so concentrating on the first few versus the entire question set could possibly negatively effect your score (for example if the first four are unscored and you have to rush through the last few questions).

thanks mate!

I went to the link you had posted in your reply and saw that IR is not adaptive, but couldn't find any details about 8 vs 12 actual questions which will be evaluated. But i think I've got enough information now to change my mind that i need to attempt all questions!

Yes, that's correct. IR is not adaptive. The order of the types of questions you'll get first is also random - some people may start off with an MSR question (Multi Source Reasoning) while others may start off with a TPA question (Two Par t Analysis)

See more details about the IR section here: http://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-practice-t ... -reasoning

And just like the rest of the GMAT, there will be experimental questions. You won't know which ones are experimental - but wherever they are - they will not contribute to your score. http://www.gmatpill.com/gmat-prep-about ... takeaways/
