Most parents who are generous are good parents, but some self-centered parents are also good parents. Yet all good parents share one characteristic: they are good listeners.
If all of the statements in the passage are true, which one of the following must also be true?
(A) All parents who are good listeners are good parents.
(B) Some parents who are good listeners are not good parent.
(C) Most parents who are good listeners are generous.
(D) Some parents who are good listeners are self-centered.
(E) Fewer self-centered parents than generous parents are good listeners.

Why is B wrong?

i find D is better.

B is not right because we don't know who are good parents.

My answer is D.

A (generous parents) --> good parents (B)

C (self centered parents) --> good or bad parents (B) or (E)

All good parents --> good listeners (D)

= > Some D are C

Answer Cannot be B because we cannot trace back from good listeners to bad parents. Good listeners only has a direct connection to good parents. And good parents has a connection to self centered or generous parents.

We are sure of D.

Answer Cannot be B because we cannot trace back from good listeners to bad parents. Good listeners only has a direct connection to good parents. And good parents has a connection to self centered or generous parents.

Thanks for the explanation.
Just help me in this
If A->B
Then B means may or may not be A
Can it mean that some B will lead to A like in the question above?

For the question above yes, some B will lead to A, and some B will lead to C.

One more for D.

A, B, and C are out straight away. Same for E.

I use Venn diagrams for this sort of qs, what about you?

D.
We know that All good self centered parents are good listeners. Therefore, there must be some good listeners that are parents that are also self centered.
B is incorrect because it could be possible that there are no parents that are good listeners that are also good parents. IE. the circles of good parents and good listeners do not overlap.

Isn't D a restatement of what has been said in the argument?

Why is B wrong?

I think it's A.

premise : all good parents are good listeners.

let's say that from a set of X+Y parents, X are good listeners. According to the premise, X are good parents. This is exactly what A means.

I know this post is old, but let's discuss it. Does anyone know the origin of this question?
