Harvested -- did .. Harvesting is something u can do and not something you can have..

A. so many carrots at once as it had in
as many X as Y - is the correct idiom

B. at once as many carrots as
Incorrect comparision. Compres carrots with fall

C. so many carrots at once as that it had gardened in
Incorrect idiom. The correct idiom is - as many X as Y. Also, the use of "it had" is incorrect. The correct usage is "it did". Did means performing some action which is the correct usage here

D. as many carrots at once as it did in
CORRECT - Correct idiom - as many X as Y.

E. so many carrots at once as it did in
as many X as Y - is the correct idiom

Hi All,

"At once" is here just a modifier (Adverb) here, so we can remove it.
Never before had the gardening crew harvested so many carrots [strike]at once[/strike] as it had in the fall of 2006.

Here both sentence are in the same tense but we know author is comparing carrots in 2006 to ever before, so 2006 is later in time and we need to use simple past for that.
So option A and C is gone.

For B . as many carrots as fall of 2006 . Wrong comparison so out.

Between D and E, definitely D is correct because idiom is "as many as"

It's a silly question but I am struggling with SC a lot.
Though I chose the correct answer, my question is that isn't it referring to carrots?
All the options had it so I looked for other issues and D maintained the form as many as so I chose D.
But can someone please explain what it is referring back to?

It is singular - - - > check for any singular entity that can logically refer to it--->gardening crew? - - - > try to replace the antecedent in place of pronoun - - - > makes sense - - - > yeah!

Can you please explain why we chose D and not E

To my knowledge
'So + adjective' is used to refer to the degree of adjective which looks true in this case
whereas 'as + adjective' is used to compare between adjectives
