Got the email this morning! Accepted into Said Business School, Class of 2013! Need to evaluate all my options now.

Good luck to all those applying. My advice: Make sure you know what you want to do post-MBA. With a 1 year program, they really place a lot of emphasis on making sure you're someone who will leverage the 1 year to achieve his/her career goal.

Hi all, congrats to all those who got in.

I got my acceptance email @ 3:45 am Pacific... typed up a message but i didn't send it for some reason. I passed out right after.

For those who received a ding, I was there earlier this year, don't worry and just remember that to get this far you were an excellent candidate but sometimes its about the right person at the right time and a combination of freak luck. Whether you chose to reapply to Oxford or another school, keep it in mind that SBS is selective about who they interview and you must have been a great applicant to have been considered. Good luck!

Help!!

Below are the research centres affiliated with SBS (from Wikipedia):

The BT Centre for Major Programme Management
The Oxford Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
The Institute for Science, Innovation and Society
The Novak Druce Centre for Professional Service Firms
The Oxford Institute of Retail Management
The Oxford Private Equity Institute
The Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation
The Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation
The Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship

The interdisciplinary Oxford-Man Institute of Quantitative Finance also draws many of its researchers from SBS.

A current student here. Depending on lecturer schedule, the courses might be/not be available. I am not sure who will be lecturing political risk at this point. So, I am sorry that I am not able to provide much information on this.

Regarding Said's affiliation with other departments of University: SBS has both well structured formal ties as well as informal need based ties with other departments. But, the point to take away is that SBS plays a major role on business side of most of the research carried out by the larger university. I have seen some of the amazing innovations so far in my 7 month stay here. I cant name most of them because of obvious reasons. One quick example could be the self drive car Oxford is developing. I personally took photo of the car with the inventor.

regards
YM

Hi All,

got done with interview last night... surprisingly the interview slot was only for 30mins.. not sure if that is standard for Said Interviews or whether the interviewer was in a hurry.... the questions were pretty much standard (why MBA, why Now, Why Said, what you bring to the class etc etc).... the interviewer was quite pleasant to interact with and was very understanding considering the video on skype didnt work through most part of the interview....

i guess now the wait begins...

anyone else to share their interview experience ?

I had my in person interview yesterday with a member of the adcom. It was pretty standard. What you do at your present job, why you want mba, why Said, where else you applied, what you bring to the class and so on. None of the behavioral questions like that of Shamanth. Personally, I am satisfied with the way it went. Now the wait begins..

Got another interview for IE next week. This one will be skype though. good luck, y'all.

On an unrelated note, on the day of the interview I met a guy who was interviewing along with me. He seemed concerned that he did not have a work experience. He had taken a break from medical school at US and was in the UK pursuing a masters in Health policy or something in Oxford. He was so modest and said that he was lucky to be here in UK on a scholarship etc. I came to know recently just browsing on the internet that he is a Rhodes scholar. Whew!!!! Unbelievable modesty being a Rhodes scholar.

For joining Facebook, do you just need to send a request or also a PM to the moderators stating details of acceptance etc?

Regarding the event registration, though I was able to register, another email has been sent to sort out the issue. So I guess there was some issue.

Now I know for sure I'll be staying in UK for the next year, SUPER excited!!! Such a good feeling knowing my plan for the next few months and not being in limbo :)

Btw, can someone share the link to the Oxford MBA facebook group? I looked up on fb and there are few different ones. Is it the Said Business School Admissions?

Hey!!!

I am planning of applying this year. My GMAT score is 680 and i have 2 years of work experience. I work in a manufacturing company as a design engineer. And ya i am an Indian, but thank fully not from an IT back ground. I did my UG in a top engineering college with a CGPA of 8.

Can you suggest how i should go about my app process and is there a realistic chance of me getting accepted.?

Hi Vasu..

Let me list the positives first:

- It is, as you said, good that you are not from an IT background.. It will help set apart your application
- It is good that you have a good GPA

The not so positives:

- You have to keep in mind that you will fall in the 'Indian' group in the applicants pool and the average GMAT tends to be higher (These are the words of the admission coordinator who I met last year). So, for you to stand a fair chance a stronger (700+) GMAT would go a long way.

- Your work-experience might be a bit touch and go quantity-wise. It also depends on the quality of your experience and how you are able to position yourself

This is only my opinion. I would strongly advise you to attend one of the Oxford events and get another opinion.
