Hello
I am facing difficulties in coverting word problems to equations (especially the sentences with times and half etc)
1) There will be 6 times as many red cars as green cars 2) A will be 8 times older as B in 5 years from now 3) A will be as half as C in 4 years from now
Please help me with some formula or basic understanding on how to convert these sentences to equations ?
Thanks in advance

6 times as many Red as Green means more Red--so we need to multiply the Greens. R = 6G
Translating the first half of sentence 2) gets A' = 8 B' (Will Be is the equals sign.) Why the doohickeys by the variables? Well, this whole event is in five years, according to the second part of the sentence. So the doohickeys indicate that those ages are ages in 5 years. So, since A' = A + 5 and B' = B + 5, substitute to get the final equations: A + 5 = 8 (B + 5)
3) works the same way: (A + 4) = 1/2 (C + 4)
Do note that those sentences seem not to be quite grammatically correct. Make sure you're reading and copying correctly--a missed work can completely change the meaning in word problems!

As Eli noted above, the given sentences are written poorly.
Let me re-write 2 and 3.
2) A will be 8 times as old as B in 5 yrs from now. 3) A will be half as old as C in 4 yrs from now.
While converting, it sometimes helps to note that 'is'and 'will be' translate to '=' in Math.
e.g. 2) A will be 8 times as old as B in 5 yrs from now. "A will be" translates to "A =" "8 times as old as B" translates to "8*B" "in 5 yrs" gives us "A + 5 = 8B + 5"
