After going through all of the
MGMAT guides and doing a week of comprehensive review, I've decided it's time to start taking practice tests. Here's how it's gone...
3/8/14 - GMAT Prep 1: 620 Q44 V32 --> Woah, that's lower than I expected. Timing was brutal. Ok, I need to improve my verbal for sure. I will study only verbal this week and see how next week goes...
3/15/14 - MGMAT CAT1: 630 Q40 V36 --> Timing was fine this time now that I know what to expect. Verbal is better but damn, quant was hard!! Quant totally paid the price after my shifted focus last week. I'm freaked out about blowing it on the math (even though I know
MGMAT is generally tougher) AND I still need to get verbal above 40. Ugh. Cried a little. Bought GMAT Pill SC. Decided to take a break the following weekend from practice tests and hung out with friends/did some yoga. I got this.
3/30/14 - GMAT Prep 2: 650 Q44 V35 --> Timing was fine, finished quant with 15 minutes to spare so now I'm probably guessing too much. Was really distracted during verbal, my roommate kept vacuuming and stomping around like a maniac. Still, I thought SC would be better since I had been getting 90% correct on GMAT Pill. Bought RC pill. Need to go through that this week.
At least my score is going up but it is going a lot slower than I had hoped! Ideally I'd like to get my quant up 2-3 points and my verbal over V40. I hope GMAT Pill SC and RC can help me do that. My goal for this week is to review my GMAT Prep2 test from yesterday and ID my areas of weaknesses. Then, I will do 10 SC's per day, get through the 1-2 RC Pill videos per day, then do a
MGMAT math question bank MWF and review Tues/Th/Sat. Does this sound like a sound strategy?
Are there any weekly study plans out there that might be helpful? Is it better to focus on one topic per day or try and do multiple things per day? I've read the best practices over and over again (Track and review
error log, spend more time reviewing vs. solving, etc.) but I feel like it's a lot easier said than done. Plus it's not like I'm constantly missing the same type of problem over and over again. I'm going to take another
MGMAT in 2 weeks (hopefully I don't cry this time).
Thanks for your comments and please kudos if you are in the same boat or have found this helpful! And if any of you tend to freak out like I do, I highly recommend yoga and whiskey
