Go through the construction :

Modern inventions may seem to have done X, but in fact, have done Y (subject is Plural inventions)
A/B/D/E are out

C is correct

Hope this clarifies..!!

Same confusion.
I prefer the agreement with the meaning but not the tense.

I agree with C - however I want to know why 'they have aggravated' is not commented upon - are modern inventions a person (because we used 'they') - have increased......because IT has seems to be more sensible (though not given)
In such a case what do we pay attention to?

The subject here is modern inventions which is very far away from its pronoun .
The should be plural here and use of it is improper .
Only C has all the correct S-V agreement and proper nouns.

(A) have increased the incidence of health hazards such as silicosis because it has aggravated the dust hazard

(B) has increased the incidence of health hazards such as silicosis because it has aggravated the dust hazard

(C) have increased the incidence of health hazards such as silicosis because they have aggravated the dust hazard

(D) increased the incidence of health hazards such as silicosis because they aggravated the dust hazard

(E) increased the incidence of health hazards such as silicosis because of aggravating the dust hazard

i thgt after. the sentence is just talking about pneuumatic drill and hence all the verbs needs to be singular...
Modern inventions such as pneumatic drill .....

KAPLAN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION:

C

(A) has to be wrong, because “it” illogically refers to “silicosis.”Actually,“modern inventions,”plural, have aggravated the dust hazard.” So you need “they” to follow “because,” as in (C) and (D). There’s no reason to use the past, in (E), because the hazard is still hap- pening.

Subject -Modern inventions so verb need to be agreed with plural subject
Also usage of "have" is correct as per usage of "have" in non underline part

I want to know why : they " is used as is they referring to silicosis ,helath hazards, laborers or inventions .Since silicosis is a disease so it should be noun and "it"can aslo refer to that as per rules .
with meaning "they " is used for pneumatic drill which again is singular then why " they"
